Lung cancer took my mother's life prematurly two 2 years ago. To ease
the transition I compiled a book of memories which included photos both old
and new, small treasures and memoriabilia that were reflections of my
mothers life. I included in the memory book major events of my life
that brought her happiness and joy. This book I designed for myself
of my mother's life, I hold close to my heart and keep it close at
hand. The cover a rich burgandy silk fabric with velvet trim.
The book I designed for my brother was a more masculine burgandy
suade with leather trim. Once again his book was a representation of
his life in relationship to hers: Newspaper clippings from his
highschool achievements, wedding photos and grandchildren filled many
of his pages.
Each book spoke to their
personal relationship and was unique and designed for their
individual style.
There seemed to be a pattern taking form as I was asked to design other memory books for loved ones who had passed on. At times this process was a vehicle to heal old wounds and at other times to faciliate a completion. With each book, regardless of the circumstances, a fresh start with a gorgeous representation of a life well lived was established
